The Missing Friend

Updated: Aug 14, 2021

BOOM! I jumped out of my bed, looking around the room. Then I glared at the window. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ojas, and I am 9 years old. I play soccer, and I am not scared of the dark! Okay, maybe I fear the dark, but what are night lights for? So, anyway, back to the story. Where was I again? Oh yeah. There was a big thunderstorm in Ojas town. Don't look at me like that! I didn't name it! Stop distracting me! I need to concentrate on writing this story. Wait, are those cookies? And they're for free! No! I am going to focus and do nothing else! So, after I finished glaring at the window, I tried to sleep, but I couldn't, even when the thunderstorm passed. I sighed. It was going to be a long night.

When morning finally came, I was as tired as a human who hadn't slept for one night. I woke up, and I stumbled down the bed. I ate breakfast alone since my mom and dad were at their office. Then I walked to school. But when I got to school, nobody was there! I tried to open the door but it was locked! What was happening? Was this a dream? I pinched myself and nothing happened. So this wasn't a dream. I decided to go to my friend's house, to ask him what had happened.

When I went to his house, there was a park instead of the house. Where had the house gone? My friend hadn't moved, had he? He would have told me if he was going to move. right? Maybe, I had the wrong location. But I couldn't find the address! What was happening? Now, I was really confused. Why was nobody at school? And where was my friend? I decided to ask everyone where my friend had gone, but no one seemed to know what I was talking about! I decided to go back to my house. Maybe my sister would know what had happened.

I opened the door and closed it. "Ojas!" someone yelled. "I turned and saw my sister! "Where were you?" "I was going to school but no one was there! And when I got to my best friend's house it wasn't there and no one seemed to know who he was!" My sister looked confused "What do mean you went to school, you're doing online school because of Covid-19!" "What?" I was so confused for a second. And then it hit me like a speeding train. Of course I had been going to online school for one year! That meant that my friend was imaginary! "Come on" my sister said looking at me weirdly "you've got a long day ahead of you and no cookies today! Stop looking at me like that!" I sighed. Today was going to be a long day.
